Barbados Food, Wine and Rum Festival - Rum Tasting Tour
Just like all the events during the Barbados Food, Wine and Rum Festival you are greeted with a glass of rum to welcome you to Mount Gay Rum. Don’t be fooled Mount Gay is not located on an actual mountain. Mount Gay Rum is the name of the company and is located in a building along the ocean.
The start of the tour consists of a 12 minute documentary that gives you a brief history lesson of
rum in Barbados. After the film you are seated at a table with seven glasses in front of you all consisting of different levels of rum. With the help of Mount Gay Rum’s Master Blender, Allen Smith, you get an understanding of the aroma, ingredients, and the aging/blending process of each rum. The most memorable rums would be the Extra Old and the 1703. Both rums are the smoothest in taste with 1703 being the best at Mount Gay Rum.
After learning how to distinguish the taste of each rum, you get a fun lesson on rum cocktails with Mount Gay’s Global Ambassador,
Chesterfield Brown. With a little assistance from the audience Chesterfield demonstrates how to make a rum punch from start to finish. After all the demonstrations have been made of course you get to sample the rum punch and enjoy a light lunch. On your way out the door purchase a bottle of Mount Gay Rum to make your own rum punch at home.
